Call for Papers: Campaigning for Change

The first in a series of events exploring human rights in relation to notions of place Campaigning for Change: Sexual Orientations and Gender Identities will take place on Friday 13th June (12.30-5pm) Space 7, Culture Lab

The event features:
Dr Matthew Waites (University of Glasgow), who recently co-edited ‘Human Rights: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in The Commonwealth’
Sarah Smart (Co-Ordinator for Newcastle City of Sanctuary) and Janet Owen (Rainbow Home)
Emily Waller and Emily Parkin, who launched the ‘Man Up’ anti-discrimination campaign at Newcastle University
Dr Ian McDonald, whose film ‘Justin’ follows the anti-homophobia campaign in football, originally launched to mark the ten year anniversary of the death of Justin Fashanu. A screening of ‘Justin’ will close the event.

If you are a research student, early career researcher or recent graduate, and your work concerns how, why, and with what impact, sexual orientations and gender identities might be claimed in certain places and spaces and not others – get in touch! We are now accepting abstracts for 20 minute long presentations.

Abstracts should be no more than 200 words and should be sent to Emma Coffield (e.j.coffield@newcastle.ac.uk) by Friday 30th May 2014.
