Trails and Tales – Call for Artists

Trails & Tales is a Heritage Learning Programme which has been working with communities in East Dunbartonshire over a period of 3 years to inform a series of outdoor walking Heritage & Arts Sculpture Trails. Artists have delivered a variety of workshops across a range of participants – children & YP, adults, older people, community groups, nurseries & schools. The information gathered through activity has told us what heritage stories and locations are important to people. Throughout this process we have been working with Collective Architecture, who are developing the strategy for the trails. We are now at the stage where we have 11 trail routes which all tell their own unique story. Each route has a number of heritage stops/ locations, a selection of these will act as lure points, where art works will be located.

We are now looking to appoint a range of artists across various mediums and disciplines to work with us to develop a number of small but exciting commissions. Experience of delivering community engagement & developing and creating publicly sited art works would be an advantage, however, applications from emerging artists, or artists with an interest in moving into the sphere of public art work, are also encouraged. We are particularly interested in artists who have experience or an interest in creating work which is site specific and/or draws inspiration from aspects of local history, local tales and heritage.

Appointed artists will be awarded up to £15,000 per commission for artist’s fee, expenses, production & install costs. Artists will work closely with the T&T team including Collective Architecture.
